I've never heard of a revenant before, but probably something more like that...? I wasn't ever human, anyway.

[A little, light shrug.]

A revenant is - death creates it. It can belong to a human, but it's a powerful entity in its own right, generally unrecognizable.

You sound. . . somewhat different than that.

[touchups]

[He immediately makes a little surprised "oh!", propping his chin up against the heel of his palm.]

How interesting...! I've never heard of something that death creates. So they have their own will? Their own soul, maybe?

[He gestures to himself after that, though it's a lazy sort of motion.]

Do you have-- mm... Manifestations, I guess? Like if someone thinks hard enough about something, that thing starts to exist?

I don't know about their own soul, but their own will, certainly. Revenants frequently cause a great amount of damage. Necromancers are cautioned to avoid their inadvertent creation at all costs.

[As for manifestations, she thinks about that for a moment.]

Hmm. I'm not certain. I suppose if a sufficiently powerful necromancer were to focus on something, it might cause spirits to become attached to it.

[There's a little, lilting hum and a nod as he considers that... Honestly, he does indeed feel a horrific kinship with revenants based on that alone.]

Huh... Well! It's not quiiite like that, but I guess it's kind of close? Except we don't really need one super powerful person to be born. It's more like, a - a strength of feeling thing!

And that's what you are? A strength of feeling?

[A BIT. He nods, though, enthusiastic.]

More or less! I'm a spirit, just born from feelings instead of coming from one person like a ghost or something. Ah - that's why the stuff you were talking about earlier is so interesting, you know? Things don't work exactly that way where I come from, but I like hearing about all the differences between places.

I've never met anything like you, I don't think. I'm also quite interested in it. What sort of feelings were you born from?

[touchups]

[He laughs a little, and the sound of it is somewhat sheepish.]

Mmm... Well! Most of the strongest feelings that stick around long enough to create a spirit are things like fear. Like - people are afraid of natural disasters, right? Like volcanoes! With so many people being afraid of the same thing all the time, it makes sense that a spirit of volcanoes would be born. Same with things like the ocean, or forests, or even just really popular legends and fairy tales. If enough people believe in it, then it could probably end up being born.

So you're a manifestation of fear.

[Actually, that sounds very interesting.]

[The way that he has immediately decided he likes 90% of the people here more than literally any other human he's ever met on his big, wide planet.]

Mmhm! More or less. The shape changes depending on how big the fear is or where it's directed, but there are a lot of us, where I come from.

You must be quite dangerous.

[But she continues to sound like she finds that interesting.]

I guess! But probably no more than anyone else, here. [Then, with an edge of curiosity:] It doesn't bother you?

I'm quite dangerous myself. It doesn't bother me. But I find myself curious what it is that a spirit of fear could desire.

[touchups]

Ah, I'm glad! [Both to meet someone else who's DANGEROUS, but also:] It's really sad when something like that scares people off.

[He is very unfortunately social in his weird way, so he does seem genuinely grateful about it... That said:] Oh! Well, we're hunted down a lot, you know? So I think it'd be good if that stopped. Being exorcised seems like a pain, haha.

[Literally and also metaphorically.]

I see. And if you're left alone by humans and aren't exorcised, what do you get up to?

[touchups]

Eh... [He. He's quiet for a second, looking upward thoughtfully as he tries thinking of the times he's spent apart from humans.]

...Well, I don't know about the others, but I like going to the movies and Dagon's beach! So I'd probably do more of that. But it'd also be nice to go to other beaches and cities and stuff without being bothered.

[So it doesn't really sound like he's hurting anyone. Maybe others of his kind will hurt humans, but - well, it isn't her job to worry about this. She can, with a clear conscience, refuse to interfere in his fulfilling his wishes.]

I hope you're able to earn what you want, then. Everyone deserves an opportunity to live their life.

Mm, I think so, too. Even if we're not human, we're not less than them either, you know?

[Which is followed by a little half-shrug. He seems pretty content to just leave it at that though, and nods toward her curiously.]

What about you? What is it that you came all the way here for?

Ah, that. . .

[She considers her answer for a moment, weighing how much she wants to share.]

In the past years, my House has fallen into decline. We lost many of our number in a creche flu some years back, and others to the Cohort. I'd like the power to restore my House and ensure we survive.

[touchups]

[He's an apt listener, attentive as she talks and nodding at the end of her explanation.]

The will to survive! A lot of fear comes from that. [So it's something he understands innately. There's probably some funky Survival Curse wandering around out there... It warms his wee heart.] It's a solid goal to have, mm. Good luck, good luck!
